Mustangs Bounce Back, Down Bullets

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team bounced back with a 3-1 win against Gettysburg in non-league action Wednesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-17, 19-25, 25-15 25-20.

  • Stevenson (8-2) jumped out to a 9-3 lead following a kill by Sarah Straub.
  • Gettysburg (5-2) got within 10-8, but three quick points capped by a Bullet attack error made it 13-8.
  • The guests cut the lead to three twice but got no closer.

  • Stevenson led 13-9 following a Straub kill, but a 9-4 Gettysburg run put it on top following a Sarah Ellis kill.
  • Following a Mustang timeout, the Bullets tacked on two more points to make it 20-17.
  • After a Sophia Eckerd kill halted the guests' run, four straight points made it 24-18 and after a Bullet service error, a Mustang attack error evened the match.

  • Four straight Mustang points capped by a Bullet attack error put the hosts up 11-6.
  • After Gettysburg pulled within 12-10, back-to-back Shannon Baily kills, a Mackenzie Blevins kill, and a Bullet attack error made it 16-10.
  • Stevenson closed the set with six of the final eight points to take a 2-1 lead.

  • After six ties through the first 14 points for each team, three straight Mustang points capped by a Kanann Gemmill ace put the Mustangs up 17-14.
  • Following a Gettysburg point and a Rileigh Kimball kill, Blevins recorded four straight service aces to give the Mustangs a 22-15 lead.
  • The Bullets pulled within four twice but a Baily kill closed out the match.

  • Baily led the Mustangs with 16 kills, hitting .433, while also recording a pair of blocks.
  • Straub hit .545 and had seven kills and two blocks.
  • Kayla Vaeth led four Mustangs in double figures in digs with 12.  Blevins and Piper Connors had 11, while Makala Thompson finished with 10.
  • Thompson totaled 15 assists, with Blevins posting 14.
  • Stevenson had nine service aces and one error, while the Bullets finished with five aces and 15 service errors.  Blevins had six of the nine aces.
  • Gettysburg hit .186, with the Mustangs hitting .153.

  • Stevenson is idle until next Wednesday, September 22, when it travels to Alvernia for a 7 pm MAC Commonwealth match
