Mustangs Finish Haverford Tournament 4-0, Connors Named MVP

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team finished 4-0 at the Haverford Tournament with a pair of wins on Saturday.  The Mustangs blanked Stockton 3-0 then rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the host Fords 3-2.  Senior Piper Connors was named tournament MVP.

  • Set scores were 25-14, 25-16, 25-14.
  • Stevenson (4-0) was led by nine kills and four service aces by Connors.
  • Rileigh Kimball hit .412 and totaled eight kills.
  • Kayla Vaeth finished with 11 digs.
  • Mackenzie Blevins handed out 16 assists, while Makala Thompson had 15.
  • The Mustangs hit .337 as a team while holding Stockton (1-2) to .052 hitting.

  • Down 2-1 in the match, the Mustangs trailed 17-12 in the fourth set to Haverford (2-1).
  • Stevenson chipped away and tied the set 20-20 following a Ford attack error.
  • Back-to-back kills by Shannon Baily put the guests up 24-23 and serving for set point, but a Haverford kill knotted the match at 24.
  • Stevenson recorded the final two points on Haverford attack errors.
  • The Mustangs jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the deciding set, reeling off six straight points after a 4-2 lead.
  • Baily hit .273 and totaled 15 kills, while Sophia Eckerd added 13 kills.
  • Eckerd also had four block assists.
  • Connors added eight kills and 11 digs.
  • Darian Dildy registered six block assists.
  • Blevins totaled 26 kills and 14 digs while Thompson had 20 helpers.
  • Vaeth racked up 22 digs, with Emily Pellini contributing 11.
  • Stevenson hit .162 in the second match of the day while Haverford hit .130

  • Connors was named tournament MVP while Blevins and Eckerd were named to the All-Tournament team.

  • The Mustangs' home and MAC Commonwealth opener is set for Wednesday as they host conference newcomer York (Pa.) at 7 pm at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
