Roesener Nets Overtime Winner to Lift Mustangs In Season Opener

CRESSON, Pa. - Stevenson women's soccer freshman Emily Rusk netted her first career goal while senior Alayna Roesener netted the game-winning goal just 2:13 into overtime as the Mustangs opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Mount Aloysius Friday evening at the Ray and Louise Walker Athletic Field Complex.

  • The Mustangs (1-0) fired the first shot of the game as senior Brianna Christie had her shot saved in the third minute.
  • In the 10th minute, the Mounties (0-1) netted the game's first goal, scoring on a free kick.
  • After the visitors had back-to-back shots blocked, freshman Lezah Gannon saw her shot hit off the post.
  • With 3:22 remaining in the opening half, Rusk knotted the game at 1-1 with a shot to the low left corner.
  • Rusk fired another shot in the final 1:15 of play but it was saved by Lauren Davey.

  • Stevenson put the first two shots of the half on frame before sophomore Keegan Caffrey made a stop in the 66th minute, her lone save of the half.
  • Davey was forced to make five second half saves.

  • On the only shot of the overtime period, Roesener took her lone shot of the game from just outside the 18-yard box that beat Davey to the far left corner.

  • Stevenson outshot Mount Aloysius, 22-5, including 13-2 in the opening period.
  • It is the second career game-winning goal for Roesener and first since her rookie season.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, September 1 when the Mustangs host Ursinus in their home opener beginning at 2:00 p.m.
  • In pregame ceremonies, the Mustangs will honor their 10 seniors.
