MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Stevenson softball junior Erin Stephey and senior Jasmyn Ogletree combined for seven RBIs while Stephey launched her third home run of the season as the Mustangs posted a non-conference doubleheader sweep versus Penn State Harrisburg Sunday afternoon.
The Mustangs (8-6) used a strong fifth inning to post a come from behind 6-5 victory in the opening game before using another strong fifth inning in game two for a 6-1 victory.
After falling behind 3-0 entering the fifth inning in the opening game, Stevenson scored five runs, including four with two outs, highlighted by a three-run home run by Stephey. Junior Kayla Maggio hit a sacrifice fly to score sophomore Gina D'Andrea for the opening run before sophomore Haley Lennon hit an RBI single. The Mustangs recorded six of their nine hits in that inning.
Stephey and Ogletree each recorded two hits in the game.
In game two, the teams each scored a run in the first inning with Ogletree hitting a two-out RBI double to score senior Tiffany McKee, who also recorded a two-out hit. Ogletree hit her second double of the game in the fifth inning to score two runs before senior Kate Finnen followed with a double to score freshman Emilee Strickland. Ogletee then added her third hit and fourth RBI of the game in the seventh inning.
Ogletree, Finnen and freshman Kayla Briles all went 3-for-4 at the plate while Briles recorded three stolen bases. Briles has 10 consecutive stolen bases to start her career. In the pitching circle, freshman Haley Monahan earned her second career start and allowed just one earned run.
Stevenson returns to action on Thursday, March 22 when the Mustangs travel to Gettysburg for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
