Kenny Posts Shutout as Mustangs Down Nazareth for Seventh Straight

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson men's ice hockey freshman Ryan Kenny posted his second shutout of the season as the Mustangs posted a 2-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Nazareth Saturday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • The Mustangs (9-1-0, 6-1-0 UCHC) had the first power play opportunity just 1:40 with junior Houston Wilson firing a shot off the post during the man advantage.
  • Stevenson went back on the power play just past the midway point of the period with senior Nick Gray hitting the post with his shot dinging the left post before going across the goal.
  • On the third power play attempt of the period, Gray found the back of the net with 3:10 remaining on assists from sophomore Ryan Patrick and junior Aaron Murray.
  • The hosts hit the crossbar twice while also hitting the post twice in the period.

  • The Golden Flyers (5-4-2, 4-3-0 UCHC) had their first power play attempt at the 5:09 mark of the period but Kenny stopped all three shots on net.
  • Kenny stopped the lone shot on Nazareth's second power play opportunity while senior Evan Williams came up with a blocked shot.
  • The Mustangs killed off a third penalty in the period with Kenny once again stopping the lone shot on net.

  • Just 2:16 into the period, sophomore Chad Watt caused a turnover in the Mustangs offensive zone and beat Sean Kuhn to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
  • The Golden Flyers had 37 seconds of a four-on-three power play before Ray Falso hit the pipe during the five-on-four power play.
  • The Mustangs killed off a four minute power play midway through the period behind five saves by Kenny.
  • With 2:55 remaining, Stevenson had a power play opportunity but Kuhn stopped three shots.
  • Nazareth pulled Kuhn for the final 31 seconds but the visitors managed just one shot that was stopped by Kenny.

  • Nazareth held a 23-21 advantage in shots and won 36 of the 59 face-offs.
  • The Mustangs have won seven straight games and are just two wins shy of tying the program record.
  • Gray netted a goal in his seventh straight game while scoring his seventh power play goal of the season.
  • Patrick dished out his 12th assist to tie senior Dominic Brenza for the team lead.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, January 4 when the Mustangs host a UCHC contest versus Chatham beginning at 3:00 p.m.
