OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Host Stevenson University placed three players in double figures as it won its third consecutive Buffalo Wild Wings Classic championship with an 84-65 win over Becker College Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
- Stevenson (2-1) and Becker (2-2) traded the lead seven times in the opening seven minutes before a 6-0 spurt put the Hawks in front 19-14 at the 13:20 mark.
- The Mustangs used an 11-0 run capped by a three by Evan Joseph to build a 25-19 lead with 11:19 to go in the opening period.
- Becker cut the lead to one twice, with a Mekhi Chester basket with 8:35 on the clock making it a 27-26 game.
- The hosts outscored the Hawks 14-2 over the next five-plus minutes to go up 41-28 on a Mark Terrell dunk with 3:19 left before intermission.
- Seven straight points by Becker whittled the lead down to six with 1:35 to play.
- Stevenson scored the next six points to push the lead back to 11 and took a 46-37 lead into the break.
- Stevenson outscored Becker 17-6 over the first five minutes of the second half to go up 20, 63-43, on a Norman Hughes three.
- Becker tried to claw back in the game, scoring eight straight to cut the lead to 11, 68-57, with 9:36 to play.
- Holding the Hawks scoreless for over six minutes, Stevenson scored nine straight to push the lead back to 20 with 4:12 to play as Bo Wesley sank a free throw.
- Becker got the lead down to 16 twice but got no closer.
- Stevenson shot 60% (18-30) in the opening 20 minutes and 48.3% for the game while the Hawks shot 45.3% overall.
- The Mustangs knocked down 14 of their 29 three-point attempts, while the Hawks were 7-17 behind the arc.
- Both teams took 18 free throws, with Stevenson making 12 and Becker 10.
- The hosts held a commanding 46-19 rebounding advantage, including 21-6 on the offensive glass.
- Hughes finished with 15 points, going 5-9 behind the arc, while recording four assists.
- Joseph was 4-5 from three-point land and tallied 14 points and four assists.
- Mark Terrell registered 14 points and nine rebounds.
- Tournament MVP Jaylin Johnson added eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.
- Cam Harris, who was named to the All-Tournament team, had eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.
- Cornelius Bobo finished with nine points and five boards.
- Stevenson heads to Rhode Island Tuesday night to face Salve Regina in a 5:00 contest.
- The Mustangs are on the road for their next five games and return home Saturday, December 7 for a 3:00 pm MAC Commonwealth contest against Lycoming.
