SCRANTON, Pa. - Host Scranton placed four starters in double figures as it downed Stevenson 67-54 in non-conference men's basketball Saturday night at the John Long Center.
- Sophomore Norman Hughes connected on his first three three-point attempts to give Stevenson (0-1) an 11-8 lead at the 15:30 mark.
- A putback by Bo Wesley with 15:05 on the clock extended the Mustang lead to 13-8.
- Scranton (1-0) took the lead, 19-17, at the 10:20 mark on a basket by Jackson Danzig.
- A 7-0 spurt by the Royals extended their lead to eight, 28-20, with 7:24 left in the first half.
- Back-to-back baskets by Wesley and Kyle Wooldridge cut Scranton's lead in half with 6:40 on the clock.
- The hosts outscored the Mustangs 16-7 the rest of the half and took a 12-point lead to the locker room, 43-31.
- Stevenson opened the second half on a 9-2 run and a three by Jaylin Johnson with just over 14 minutes remaining cut Scranton's lead to five, 45-40.
- The Royals countered with a 9-2 spurt of their own and reclaimed a 12-point lead, 54-42, with 9:39 on the clock.
- A free throw by Mark Terrell with just under six minutes left ended a six-minute Mustang scoring drought as Scranton led 58-43.
- The Mustangs cut the lead to 12, 62-50, with 3:08 remaining on a Wesley basket.
- Stevenson got the lead down to 10 on a Hughes basket with 1:19 to go, 64-54, but got no closer.
- Hughes finished 4-7 behind the arc and 5-10 from the floor en route to 15 points in his Mustang debut.
- Johnson went 6-12 from the floor and totaled 13 points.
- Wesley was 3-3 from the field and 4-4 at the free throw line and tallied 10 points and four rebounds.
- Terrell added eight points.
- Evan Joseph grabbed eight rebounds.
- Scranton shot 47.1% from the floor and went 16-19 at the free throw line, while the Mustangs shot 38.5% overall and 9-17 at the stripe.
- Stevenson outrebounded the Royals 36-28, including 15-7 on the offensive glass.
- The Mustangs committed 21 turnovers in their season debut.
- Stevenson hosts the annual Buffalo Wild Wings Classic next weekend, November 15-16 at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
- The Mustangs take on SUNY Maritime on Friday, November 15 at 8 pm.
