White Leads Five Mustangs at Green Terror Challenge

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Stevenson women's cross country freshman Austin White (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) led five Mustang competitors with a 21st place finish at the 5K Green Terror Challenge on Saturday at Westminster High School.
White improved upon her time from last week's Baltimore Metro Invitational by more than 50 seconds, finishing in a time of 24:01. Sophomore Julie Bekier (Baltimore/Greater Grace Christian Academy) made her first appearance in a Stevenson uniform, finishing just 30 seconds behind White in 25th with a time of 24:31.
Senior Brooke Witherow (Berlin/Stephen Decatur), the Mustangs' top finisher a week ago, placed 32nd in 25:03 while junior Lauren Redding (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) cut 47 seconds off last week's time en route to a 38th-place finish in 25:51.
As a team, Stevenson finished sixth out of seven with 96 points. Host McDaniel took home top team honors with 23 points, just one ahead of second-place York (Pa.). St. Mary's (Md.) finished third with 65 points, followed by Hood and Hagerstown Community College.
McDaniel's Lindsay Wilson was the top individual finisher with a time of 19:55.
In the 3K race, freshman Meghan Najewicz (Baltimore/Perry Hall) competed in her first collegiate race, placing 19th in a time of 14:55.
Stevenson returns to competition next Saturday at the Spartan Invitational at John Rudy Park in York, Pennsylvania.
