Mustangs Snap Five-Game Losing Streak, Sweep Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - The trio of junior Alex Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty), junior Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott Key) and freshman Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) totaled 22 of the team's 29 kills as the Stevenson women's volleyball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a sweep over Hood on the road in a CAC contest Tuesday night at Gambrill Gym.
The win also snapped a two-game conference losing streak for the Mustangs (8-11, 2-2 CAC) who evened their road record to four wins and four losses this season.
Gabbard led the offense with nine kills while Mercer and Katsampis added seven and six, respectively. Gabbard also added eight digs.
Sophomore Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) totaled her 10th consecutive match with at least 10 kills as she led the team with 14. She and Gabbard totaled 20 of the team's 26.
Sophomore Amy Rudolph (North East/Rising Sun) had 24 assists and was one of three players with two service aces which were a part of Hood's 49 total errors.
Kristina Straub led the Blazers (1-12, 0-5 CAC) with five kills while Chelsea Weaver had a game-high 15 digs.
Stevenson hosts a tri-match on Saturday with two matches against Lancaster Bible and New Jersey City beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Mustangs beat Lancaster Bible earlier this year, 3-0 on September 5 en route to capturing the championship of the Crimson Eagle Classic at Philadelphia Biblical.
