Mustangs Open Spring Season With 9-0 Win at Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Stevenson University women's tennis sophomore Sarah Searing (Crownsville/Old Mill) and freshman Maura Bernstein (Eldersburg/Liberty) each won their team-leading third matches of the season as the Mustangs opened their spring schedule with a 9-0 victory at Wilson on Thursday.

Stevenson (2-1) has won back-to-back matches after finishing the fall with a 9-0 win over Lancaster Bible at home on October 7.

Berstein improved to 3-0 in dual matches this season with an 8-6, 6-2 win over Zhanna Movsesyan at No. 2 singles while Searing picked up a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Sarah Emmel.

Also of note on Thursday was the competition of Mustang freshman Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin). She and freshman Michelle Huber (Mt. Airy/Linganore) earned a victory at No. 3 doubles in their first collegiate match, 8-0 over Teslote Eyob Tadesse and Ovsanna Movsesyan.

Eyler had stellar first season with the Stevenson women's soccer team, scoring a CAC record 21 goals and being named 2008 Rookie of the Year.

The Mustangs are idle for 13 days before returning to action at home versus Penn State-Berks on Wednesday, March 18.
