FREDERICK, Md. - Stevenson women's soccer freshman Melinda Kane (Baltimore/Mercy) totaled her first career multi-goal game, scoring twice, including the game-winner in the 31st minute as the Mustangs won a season-high fifth-straight game, 4-1 over Hood Wednesday in a CAC contest at Thomas Athletic Field.

The win moved Stevenson (9-3-1, 4-1 CAC) into a tie for second place in the conference standings with Salisbury, but the Sea Gulls own the tiebreaker with the Mustangs by virtue of a 1-0 victory on September 19 at Caves Athletics Complex.

Meanwhile, the loss was the third consecutive for the Blazers (7-5-1, 2-4 CAC).

Just two minutes in, the Mustangs would benefit from a defensive miscue by Hood that resulted in an own goal and a quick 1-0 lead for Stevenson.

Kane would then net what proved to the game-winner in the 31st minute off an assist from senior Katie Decker (White Hall/Hereford) off a penalty kick. The assist was the third-straight game that Decker has registered a point where she has totaled nine of her 14 points this season.

Sophomore Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin) then scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 39th minute to give the Mustangs a 3-0 halftime lead. Eight of Eyler's goals have come in the last six games where she has totaled 18 points.

Kane picked up her second goal and seventh of the season a mere 52 seconds into the start of the season half before Cara Jordan put Hood on the board in the 58th minute with her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

The goal was the first allowed by the Mustangs' defense in over 360 minutes dating back to a 2-1 overtime win against Elizabethtown on September 26. During that time, Stevenson has outscored its five opponents, 25-2.

Sophomore Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park) had one save to improve her record to 4-1 in eight starts this season.

Stevenson travels to Dover, Delaware for a CAC contest with sixth-place Wesley on Friday night beginning at 7:00 p.m.
