Women's Lacrosse Falls at No. 19 St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Lauren Carrier, the NCAA Division III record holder for consecutive games with a goal, scored five of her season-high six during a 10-1 run to lead No. 19 St. Mary's (Md.) to a 16-9 victory over the Stevenson University women's lacrosse team Saturday at Seahawk Stadium.
The win concluded the conference schedule for the Seahawks (11-4, 6-1 CAC) who are currently in second place in the CAC standings, half-a-game behind No. 2 Salisbury who finishes its league schedule on Wednesday against Mary Washington.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs (7-6, 3-3 CAC) will look to secure the fourth-seed in this year's CAC Women's Lacrosse Championship when it travels to Hood on Tuesday.
With the scored tied at 3-3 late in the first half, Carrier scored the first of her three-straight goals for St. Mary's with 4:33 remaining before Allie Zerhusen netted her second of the game with just six seconds left to give the Seahawks a 7-3 halftime lead.
Carrier then scored her fifth goal of the game only six seconds into the second half before Zerhusen followed at 16:29 to push the lead to six. The duo combined for 10 of St. Mary's 16 goals.
Stevenson sophomore Lisa Baker (Westminster/Westminster) scored just over a minute later to break the streak, before St. Mary's rattled off four more in-a-row, capped by Carrier's sixth of the game, to take a 13-4 advantage with 7:16 to play.
Baker finished with two goals and one assist to lead the Mustangs offensively while juniors Lauren Zegowitz (Gaithersburg/Damascus) and Brittany Connelly (Catonsville/Catonsville) each netted two goals.
Senior Mandi Carr (Crownsville/Old Mill) had a goal and an assist and freshman Spencer Kraus (Mt. Airy/South Carroll) added two assists.
St. Mary's held a decisive 19-8 edge in draw controls, including a 9-2 margin in the first half. The team also benefited from the fact that Stevenson converted only 2-of-9 free position attempts and 1-of-7 in the first half.
Freshman Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park/Seton Keough) made 10 saves, marking her second consecutive game and sixth this season she has reached double digits.
Stevenson travels to Randolph-Macon on Monday for a non-conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
