Softball, Baseball Partner Again to "Save 2nd Base"

STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson University softball and baseball teams, in conjunction with the university wellness center, will be hosting a breast cancer awareness event on Wednesday, October 7 at the Carolyn Manuszak Student Union from 11:30 a.m., to 2:00 p.m.

Visitors will be able to learn about breast cancer awareness, how to perform a self exam, send a postcard to a loved one and get information on how to participate and support the race to raise money for breast cancer and Stevenson softball on October 16 as part of Villa Fest weekend.

There will also be a $1.00 raffle where guests will have the opportunity to win a "Save 2nd Base" t-shirt, gym bag or cooler. Proceeds from the raffle will be donated to The Kelly Rooney Foundation.

The KRF was established to eradicate breast cancer in young women. Through cutting-edge research and comprehensive awareness & education programs, the Foundation focuses intently on breast cancer prevention in young women and the unique challenges that young women face when diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kelly O'Brien Rooney passed away on July 11, 2006 after a courageous, four-year battle with breast cancer. She was 43. Kelly and her husband, Sean, created an amazing and dynamic family during their 15-year marriage, becoming parents to Casey, Molly, Haley, Quinn and Jack.

"Save 2nd Base" is a unique and humorous phrase to support the fight against Breast Cancer. A play on words of the old baseball euphemism is now synonymous with a battle cry heard ‘round the globe!

Kelly Rooney was a co-founder of Save 2nd Base along with sister Erin Dugery and friend Kelly Day.
