Softball Swept at Frostburg State in Season Finale

Game 1 | Game 2

FROSTBURG, Md. - Stevenson University softball freshman Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill/Fallston) went 5-for-9 with a double and an RBI, but the Mustangs could not take advantage of 15 hits, scoring just three runs as they were swept in a non-conference doubleheader at Frostburg State Sunday at Bobcat Field, 4-2 and 2-1.

The loss concludes the 2009 season for Stevenson (13-21) who finishes with 13 wins, one why shy of last year's total. The team has won at least 12 games in each of the last five seasons, including a school record 19 in 2007.

During that time, Stevenson has totaled 74 wins after posting just one 10-win season in its previous five seasons.

The Bobcats (23-14) snapped a four-game losing streak with their fourth home sweep of the season.

Frostburg State scored all six of their runs in just two innings, scoring four in the bottom of the fifth of game one and two in the bottom of the second of game two.

The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of game one after an RBI double by Bilski that scored junior Stacey Rouse (Catonsville/Mount de Sales) and a passed ball that allowed Bilski to scored with two outs and the bases loaded.

The lead would hold until the bottom of the fifth when the Bobcats finally got to sophomore Julianne Roper (Baltimore/Western Tech) and scored four runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run triple from Lindsay Freitag.

Roper held Frostburg State without a hit through the first 4.2 innings before Victoria Krichbaum hit a two-out single to right to start the Bobcat rally. Krichbaum's single was the first of five-straight hits before Roper ended the inning with a strikeout of Brooke Tapman.

Katelyn Coffey retired six of the next seven batters she faced to earn her ninth win of the season.

Bislki finished the game 3-for-4 while Rouse and freshman Lauren Davis (Mechanicsville/Chopticon) each had two hits.

In game two, Frostburg State took a 2-0 run lead in the bottom of the second on RBI singles by Megan Magee and Jayme Miller.

Magee went 2-for-3 with one RBI and also earned the win in the circle, limiting the Mustangs to just six hits and one unearned run while striking out six to improve her record to 14-4 this season.

Junior Sarah Moelter (Timonium/Dulaney) drove in Stevenson's lone run with an RBI single in the sixth. She also struck out five and scattered six hits over seven innings.

Bilski and freshman Brittany King (Bel Air/Mercy) each went 2-for-3.
