Rouse, Davis Lead Mustang Softball to Sweep Over Wells

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Junior Stacey Rouse (Catonsville/Mount de Sales) totaled six hits and five RBIs while freshman Lauren Davis (Mechanicsville/Chopticon) had five hits, including two solo home runs, as the Stevenson University softball team posted back-to-back shutouts over Wells Tuesday at Weinberg-Fine Stadium, 7-0 and 12-0.
The Mustangs (7-7) have now won three straight and six of their last nine after starting the season 1-4.
Sophomore Julianne Roper (Baltimore/Western Tech) and junior Sarah Moelter (Timonium/Dulaney) each picked up a shutout victory in the circle while Moelter picked up her second in the last three starts.
Roper surrendered just three hits and struck out 11 in totaling her seventh complete game in as many starts this season.
Meanwhile, Moelter shared the shutout with sophomore Michelle January (Baltimore/Eastern Tech) who came in to pitch the seventh. Moelter scattered four hits over four innings and struck out four in picking up her third win of the season.
Rouse and Davis drove in six of Stevenson's seven runs in the opener with Rouse going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Davis finishing 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.
Rouse drove in the Mustangs' first two runs of the game with a two-out, two-run single up the middle in the bottom of the second that scored Davis and sophomore Kelly Dorsey (Baltimore/Catonsville).
Davis had homers in the fourth and sixth with Rouse driving in the final two runs with an RBI-double in the sixth.
Rouse added three more hits in the second game, going 3-for-4 with one RBI while Dorsey was 3-for-3 with an RBI and freshman Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill/Fallston) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Stevenson erupted for eight runs in the inning, four of which were unearned as the result of two Express errors.
Davis had two hits in game two and freshman Brittany Rynkowski (Hampstead/North Carroll) was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
Stevenson travels to Penn State-Berks on Wednesday. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
