Top-11 Finishes Lead Mustangs at Spartan Invitational

YORK, Pa. - Competing with a full team for the first time this season, Stevenson placed two of its three runners in the top-11 in the 8K Spartan Invitational I hosted by York (Pa.) on Saturday at John Rudy Park.

Freshman Patrick Cristaldi (Laurel/Atholton) was the first to cross the line for the Mustangs, finishing seventh in a time of 28:48.70, just four places ahead of freshman Avior Zynda (Woodbine/Century) who placed 11th with a time of 29:18.47.

York (Pa.) and St. Mary's (Md.) were the only other schools to have more than one runner place in the top 11.

Junior Josh Michael (Baltimore/Patapsco), who competed at York in 2007, returned to place 27th in a time of 32:19.98. That year, he placed 24th at the Spartan Invitational with a time of 32:08.42.

York won the event with a total of 28 points and placed five runners in the top 10. The Spartans won by 32 points over CAC rival St. Mary's with Hood coming in third with 73 points. Lancaster Bible and Alvernia rounded out the top five.

Lancaster Bible's Sean Trott was the top individual runner, finishing nearly one minute ahead of Dan Swain of St. Mary's.

Stevenson returns to action next week at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury at Winter Place Park.
