Former Atholton High School cross country coach and 2008 Baltimore Metro Coach of the Year Michael Babe takes over as the new head cross country coach at Stevenson in 2009, replacing Jess Ramer.
Babe was also head coach of the Raiders' indoor and outdoor track and field teams while serving as a spanish teacher where he received the New Teacher of the Year award.
As the cross country coach at Atholton, Babe led the boys to the Maryland 3A state championship in 2008 as well as the 3A regional and Howard County crowns. The Raiders, who also advanced to the state finals in 2007, finished the year as the number one ranked high school team in Baltimore.
On the track, Babe also led the boys to a number one ranking as the Raiders were ranked No. 1 by the Baltimore Sun in 2009 after finishing second at the 3A region and state championships.
While at Atholton, Babe had the pleasure of working with world renowned paralympian Tatyana McFadden. McFadden won a silver and bronze medal at the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, Greece and three silvers and one bronze at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, China.
Babe also coached Graham Bazzell who was the Maryland 3A state champion and All-American at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in 2009. He also was a two-time indoor state champion and three-time outdoor state champion.
Babe is a 2007 graduate of Towson where he graduate magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts in spanish education. He is currently working on his master's in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in administration from McDaniel.
Babe, who is an active participant in road races including the Baltimore Marathon, Annapolis 10 and Baltimore 10 Mile Race, currently lives in Baltimore.
