Stevenson to Host ECAC Men's Volleyball Championship

STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson University men's volleyball team has been selected as the second-seed and host of the 2009 ECAC Division III Men's Volleyball Championship to be held Saturday, April 11 at Stevenson's Carolyn Manuszak Student Union Gymnasium.
Hunter will be the top-seed, followed by Stevenson, New Jersey City and Mt. St. Vincent. Game times will be at noon, 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., with free admission for all three matches.
Hunter will face Mt. St. Vincent in the opener before Stevenson takes on New Jersey City. The two semifinal winners will then meet for the championship.
Hunter (23-16) is the defending tournament champion, knocking off top-seeded Stevens last year. The Hawks fell to top-seeded Rivier in the first round of the NECVA Tournament on Friday after losing to Baruch in the championship game of the CUNY Athletic Conference Tournament.
Stevenson (19-12) has won a school-record 19 matches this season and finished fifth in the NECVA Western Division Tournament two weeks ago. This year marks the team's first postseason appearance since 2006 when the Mustangs advanced to the NECVA Tournament.
New Jersey City (20-16) advanced to the title game of the 2007 ECAC Division III Men's Volleyball Championship where they lost to Ramapo after beating Hunter in the semifinals. The Gothic Knights have a match against No. 8 Ramapo on Wednesday before heading to Stevenson.
Mt. St. Vincent (15-13) is making its first appearance in the tournament since the 2002 after winning the team's first ever Skyline Conference championship on March 15. The Dolphins downed Yeshiva in the semifinals then bested 2008 champion Bard in the championship.
