Mustangs Finish Fifth at NECVA West Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Senior J.R. Jackson (Havre de Grace/Havre de Grace) and sophomore Jason Matkowski (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) each totaled 12 kills as the Stevenson University men's volleyball team defeated D'Youville 3-0 to finish in fifth place at the NECVA West Tournament Saturday at Nazareth College.

The Mustangs (19-12), who have set a new school record for wins in a season, will now await to see if they are selected to participate in the 2009 ECAC Division III North Men's Volleyball Championship.

Jackson and Matkowski combined to hit .348 while Jackson had five total blocks and Matkowski added a team-high eight digs. Junior David Lloyd (Germantown/Seneca Valley) had seven kills and seven digs.

Senior Ryan McDowell (Germantown/Seneca Valley) added five kills and three service aces and freshman Dean Massimini (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township) totaled 29 assists and six digs.

Host Nazareth won the Western Division tournament title with a 30-17, 30-20, 30-26 over Medaille.
