First Annual Mustang Open Champions Crowned
STEVENSON, Md. - The first annual Mustang Open tennis tournament was held this past weekend at the Greenspring campus with three of the four semifinalists in the singles draws being former Division I players. The fourth is currently student-athlete at Washington (Md.).
David Jackson defeated Dexter MacBride in the first semifinal and Adam Cranford defeated Michael Fowler in the second. In the final, Jackson's experience and shot making proved too much as he defeated Cranford, 6-4, 6-2.
In the doubles final, it was a clash of Villa Julie alumni as current head coach Jason Cohen teamed with Fowler to take on former head coach Brad Friedel and John Schwarz. After dropping the first set, Cohen and Fowler stormed back to win the next two to take the championship, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
