Men's Soccer Secures Home Game in CAC Championship

DOVER, Del. - Stevenson men's soccer freshman Ansger Otto (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season and his first game-winner to give the Mustangs a 2-1 CAC road victory at Wesley Sunday afternoon to secure a spot in the CAC Men's Soccer Championship.
The win was the third-straight and ninth of the season for Stevenson (9-8, 4-3 CAC), the team's most wins in a season since it went 11-8 in 2006. It also secured the fourth seed and a home game for the team in the first round of the CAC Men's Soccer Championship next Saturday, October 31.
The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead just over 16 minutes into the game when sophomore Josh Danza (Pasadena/Archbishop Spaulding) netted his second of the season off an assist from junior Tyler King (Parkville/Calvert Hall). All six of King's points this season have come in the last four games.
Despite being outshot 8-3 in the opening half, the Wolverines (10-7, 4-4 CAC) tied the game with only 1:55 remaining when Kyle Long scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a pass from Luis Rivera.
The game would remain tied until the 85th minute when Otto scored unassisted for his second goal in as many games. Like King, Otto has also totaled six points in the team's last four games.
Sophomore Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made five saves for the Mustangs while Nick Talarico had 12 for Wesley, including seven in the first half.
Stevenson concludes the regular season with a second-straight CAC road contest at Gallaudet Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
