Box score
DOVER, Del. - Wesley's Rashawn Johnson scored 16 of his game-high 28 points in the second half where the Wolverines made eight three-pointers and shot 55.7 percent from the floor in handing the Stevenson University men's basketball team a 91-64 loss Monday night at Wentworth Gymnasium.
The CAC's leading scorer at 25.3 points per game, Johnson was 11-of-19 from the floor in leading Wesley (14-5, 10-0 CAC) to its 11th consecutive victory while helping the Wolverines remain unbeaten in conference play.
The win also marked the eighth-straight game for Wesley in which the team scored 90 or more points.
The Mustangs (5-15, 4-7 CAC) were led by 14 points from senior guard Greg Woody (Baltimore/Mount Saint Joseph) and 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists from senior guard Chaise Lancaster (Bowie/Northwestern).
Junior guard Irvin Jones (Landover/Riverdale Baptist) added nine points off the bench, one shy of his career-high set at York (Pa.) on December 10.
Wesley jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the game's first three minutes before stretching it to as many as 18 on three separate occasions, the last coming with 9:44 left in the first half, 32-14.
However, a 13-2 run by Stevenson, capped by a three-pointer from sophomore forward Matt Leddy (Great Mills/Great Mills) would cut the deficit to seven with 4:16 remaining.
The Mustangs had it down to five on a dunk by freshman center Keith Holtman (Baltimore/Eastern) with 1:24 left, but trailed by seven at halftime, 39-32, after a tip-in by Jacques Bowe at the end of the half.
Any hopes of a Stevenson comeback were thwarted when the Wolverines opened the second half on a 22-6 run over the first 5:28 to take a 23-point advantage, 61-38 with 14:32 remaining.
Wesley would stretch the lead to as many as 29 before cruising to the 27-point victory.
Johnson led four Wolverines in double figures, including Alphonzo Wright who had 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Stevenson returns home to face Gallaudet on Wednesday at Student Union Gymnasium. Game time is at 8:00 p.m. The Mustangs defeated the Bison 65-62 back on January 10.
