OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Taylor Harrell scored twice, including the game-winner with just 3:56 remaining in the second half to lift No. 17 Christopher Newport to a 2-1 victory over Stevenson on Saturday in non-conference field hockey action at Caves Athletics Complex.

The loss was the fourth in six games decided by one goal this season for the Mustangs (3-9). Five of those six games have come at home where the team is 1-4. The team's last three home games have all been decided by one goal, two of which have gone into overtime.

Stevenson stayed competitive the whole game despite being outshot 29-2 and on the short end of a 17-4 margin in penalty corners.

After a scoreless first half, the Captains (9-2) took a 1-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the second when Harrell redirected a shot from Paige Childers.

The Mustangs would answer with 15:42 remaining when Lauren Wynne (Clarksville/River Hill) scored her first career goal on a rebound after a shot by senior Sarah Bauer (Baltimore/Perry Hall) was saved by Christopher Newport's Emma Stout.

However, Harrell would her second game-winner of the year and team-leading 12th goal of the season with less than four minutes remaining after a flurry activity in front of the Stevenson net in which the Captains totaled eight shots and four penalty corners in the final 15 minutes.

Junior Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) and junior Natalie DiPaolo (Baltimore/Perry Hall) helped keep the Mustangs in the game as Zimmerman totaled 11 saves and DiPaolo three defensive saves.

Zimmerman now has 350 careeer saves, just 21 shy of Kim Forbes's school record.

Stevenson travels to Towson to face local rival Goucher on Wednesday.
