Stevenson Finishes First at CAC Cheer Competition

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Stevenson University cheerleading team earned its second first place trophy of the year on Saturday when the group took home the title at the 2009 CAC Cheerleading Competition held in the Field House at Gallaudet University.
The Mustangs beat out teams from York (Pa.), Gallaudet, Mary Washington and Marymount (Va.) in the championship competition. York finished second with Mary Washington placing third.
"This win was the culmination of a season of hard work and dedication," said head coach Jill Matheny. "The girls are thrilled with the results. They ended their regular season on a great high note."
The competition was open to all nine schools in the CAC and provided the opportunity for everyone to see all the CAC cheerleading teams perform at the same time and in one place.
Special recognition also goes to senior captain Ashley Ward (Edgewood/Harford Tech) who placed first in the triple jump competition against seven other competitors.
Stevenson's last performance of the year is scheduled for the President's Celebration for incoming freshmen on Saturday, April 4.
