Mustang Baseball Splits CAC Doubleheader at Wesley

Game 1 | Game 2

DOVER, Del. - Sophomore Dustin Tarlow (Finksburg/Westminster) went 4-for-4 with two RBIs while senior Wade Keenan (Eldersburg/Liberty) allowed just four hits and struck out five as the Stevenson University baseball team won game one of a CAC doubleheader with Wesley Saturday at Bob Reed Field 3-2 before dropping the second, 9-5.

The win in game one snapped a two-game losing skid for the Mustangs (11-8, 7-2 CAC) and was just their second in the last eight.

Tarlow totaled four of Stevenson's six hits as senior Max Eckert (Hyattsville/Perkiomen Prep) and sophomore Kyle Van Beek (Bel Air/John Carroll) finished with one hit each.

Tarlow scored the game's first run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by freshman Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Calvert Hall) following a one-out triple.

After Keenan held the Wolverines (13-9-1, 3-4 CAC) the first four innings, they would take the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, including an unearned run on a fielding error which gave Wesley a 2-1 lead.

However, with two outs in the top of the seventh and runners on second and third, Tarlow hit a two-run single that scored Van Beek and Keenan to put the Mustangs in front.

In the bottom of the seventh, Keenan retired the Wolverines in order to pick up his third win in five starts this season.

In the second game, Stevenson let a 5-1 lead slip away after committing three errors in the sixth which to led six runs.

After junior Derrick Nason (Catonsville/Reservoir) entered in relief of sophomore Steve Krider (Westminster/Westminster), he retired the first batter he faced before Billy Crowe reached on an error that would have been the second out.

Two singles and a walk pulled Wesley within one with runners on second and third before junior Brian Spinazzola (Baltimore/Boys Latin) entered for Nason.

The first batter Spinazzola faced reached on error which should have ended the inning, but instead, scored the game-tying run and kept the inning alive for the Wolverines with one out and runners still on second and third.

Wesley then added four more runs on an RBI single by Scott Marshall and a three-run double by Greg McKee.

Colin Warner went the distance for the Wolverines, allowing eight hits and three earned runs and striking out five.

Meanwhile, Nason suffered his second-straight loss after starting the season 3-0.

Keenan and Eckert each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Mustangs while Anderson was 1-for-3 with a run driven in.

Stevenson hosts a non-conference doubleheader with Juniata on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
